Gunilla T. Kester

Night Visitor

All night light seeping
through dark branches

as if somebody’s trying.
Blue lilac dumb, waiting

for spring, its craft to lure
fragrant blooms into air.

How lightly they wait
for what they do not know.

Only I’m awake listening
to the growling wind, counting

hours, beat of the lonely,
wondering what promise

streams from the street lamp
at the end of the road?
