Achilles’ Temple
some of us get headaches
because our soft spots aren’t closed
the cranial plates never knitting
shut the way they should
through this Achilles’ temple
flows the poisoned bric-a-brac
and disruptive ping-pongs of loose
radio waves and maverick thoughts
to be kinetically rampant
in the glass house city of our fellow
safe-shut human heads.
we become nosebleeders in the higher altitudes
of free-flowing idea flotsam
we fall victim, face first into our pages
blood stained with the bacteria-sparked
hemorrhage that normal minds
have always been closed to.
Mark Kessinger was born in Huntington WV, attended college at Cleveland State University, lived in Oklahoma City and now resides in Houston TX. He is a two-year recipient of a creative writing scholarship from CSU, a founding member and president of the Houston Council of Writers, and former editor of Voices from Big Thicket. He is the author of two volumes of poetry, Exploded View and Book of Joe, and his poetry has appeared in many publications and four anthologies.
