Meredith MacLeod-Davidson

I want to live as something porous like volcanic rock

like sea urchin fish in camouflage

coral and ocean alcoves. Tucked in.

Obsessive fixation a symptom.

I insisted the trigger points

healed. Unfortunate with age

the points don’t close

they merely conceal themselves.

A lack of self-love? Is it not

miraculous we get on

a plane, arrive somewhere

warm for the winter grit

sand no longer irritating.

Receiving the crash of surf

without a flinch. On a beach

we embrace olive flesh firmly

between teeth. Something sweet

a brine sifting through tastebuds.

Waves breaking the limits

of continents down

to silt. over time.
